GPAI compliance gets a practical reference
Voluntary code published
The General-Purpose AI Code of Practice was published with chapters on transparency, copyright, and safety and security. The safety and security chapter addresses providers of models with systemic risk. The code is a voluntary route to help demonstrate compliance; it is not itself the legislation or a guarantee that a model is suitable for every use.

The Malaysian lens
A Malaysian organisation buying an AI service should distinguish the model provider’s commitments from the customer’s own responsibilities. Our interpretation: ask what documentation will be available, how copyright concerns are handled and which downstream restrictions apply. A provider signing a code does not validate the buyer’s particular legal, hiring or credit workflow.

What evidence accompanies the model, and does the contract let the customer investigate a serious failure?
Watch / next step
Prepare for the relevant August obligations, but check whether the organisation is a model provider, deployer or another actor. Preserve the version of the code and supplier commitments used in the procurement decision.
