AI legislation clears a major vote
Parliament approval
The European Parliament approved the AI Act, including restrictions on specified AI practices, obligations for high-risk systems and transparency rules for general-purpose models. The framework links duties to an AI system’s purpose and risk. This was a legislative milestone: Council approval and the subsequent commencement timetable still lay ahead.

The Malaysian lens
A Malaysian business using AI for recruitment, credit assessment or customer support needs more than a single “AI compliant” claim from a vendor. Our reading is that intended use, destination market and the organisation’s role in the supply chain determine the questions to ask. An EU parliamentary vote does not itself create a Malaysian licensing regime.
